First of all, are you old enough (or generationally aware) to know where this post title was inspired?

We’ve all seen signs that beg the question…………………What’s the story behind THAT? Like do we really have to tell people not to touch high voltage wires. Or not to jump up on a toilet seat and hover over the bowl to do your business.

But what about workplace signs………………………………………

As I walked out of the bathroom at a coffee shop recently I noticed the this sign (featured) on the wall in the kitchen area. At first I chuckled. Then I went back to take the picture. Then as I was walking away I turned back around, peeked my head into the kitchen and asked an employee…………….”Okay, you gotta tell me what’s the story behind that sign.”

Well I think we all may know one or two people who make major problems out of things that aren’t. Apparently there was a doom and gloom employee who worked in this coffee shop. It seems that when things weren’t going right, they just assumed the worst. The system is down. The coffee machine is broken and needs to be replaced. The refrigerator is dead. On the phone with the owner or some technical support person trying to get help as soon as the “tragedy” is noticed.

Well this sign pretty much sums up what many problems really are. Lack of common sense. Or lack of taking the approach of simple solutions.

A while back my hot tub wasn’t working properly. The flow of water out of some of the jets was non-existent. I tried a few of the ideas found in the user manual and an online search. All these solutions assumed it could be a simple DIY fix. If not, contact a professional.

So I contacted a professional. $149 for him to come out and show me all I had to do was turn the only dial I didn’t turn!!! Not a whole lot of money but more the embarrassment of being stupid.

So back to the coffee shop sign. The sign was left up after the employee departed. It’s a reminder. A reminder that so many times the solution really is something simple. Why not start there!

How about you? Any signs come to your mind that either made you shake or head or got you wondering what the heck happened that required that sign? Tell me about them in the comments.
